How to use this leadership development plan
A leadership development plan works when it changes behavior in real situations. Reading, courses, and coaching can help, but development becomes visible through repeated practice, feedback, reflection, and measurable outcomes. Choose fewer goals and connect each one to work that already matters.
Start with evidence: performance feedback, team patterns, business results, career direction, and difficult moments you tend to avoid. Write one behavior you will practice, one situation where you will practice it, one person who will observe it, and one measure that shows whether the behavior improved the outcome.

Worked example
Example: Developing delegation
A manager writes: “By the end of the quarter, I will delegate three recurring decisions with clear boundaries and reduce approval bottlenecks from five days to two.” The plan includes weekly decision reviews, feedback from two team members, and a 30-day experiment before the delegation model expands.

Frequently asked questions
Free Leadership Development Plan Builder and Example: FAQ
What should a leadership development plan include?+
Include a focused capability, observable behavior, business outcome, practice actions, support, feedback sources, measures, dates, and a review rhythm.
How many development goals should I choose?+
One to three goals is usually enough. A single behavior practiced deeply often produces more change than a long list of intentions.
What is a good leadership development plan example?+
A good example links behavior to a result, such as improving delegation to shorten decision time, or improving feedback quality to reduce repeated performance issues.
